Nuno Viegas, also known as Metis, is a Portuguese artist born in Faro (1985 and raised in Quarteira. Founder of the art collective Policromia Crew, he started his artistic journey with graffiti in 1999. After completing his studies in Visual Arts at the University of Algarve, he moved to Rotterdam in the Netherlands (2014) where he discovered a new artistic identity and began to develop his painting, strongly influenced by graffiti and the hip-hop subculture.

Viegas is not your average graffiti artist. Considering his young age, few can bridge the gap between graffiti culture and fine art while staying true to both as well as he does.

Nuno presents us with a contrast between the visually aggressive reality of this subworld and his peaceful and clean representation in his works. His approach is a continuous tribute to all of those who dedicate part of their lives to this culture, in search of moments, for almost nothing, in the heart of a society whose main objective is the quest for money and power.

Nuno Viegas, aussi connu sous le nom de Metis, est un artiste portugais né en 1985 à Faro et élevé à Quarteira. Fondateur du collectif artistique “Policromia Crew”, sa carrière artistique débute en 1999 avec le graffiti. Après des études en Arts Visuels à l’Université d’Algarve, il déménage à Rotterdam en 2014 où il se découvre une nouvelle identité artistique et commence à développer une peinture fortement influencée par le graffiti ainsi que la “sous-culture” du hip-hop.

Viegas n’est pas un graffiti-artiste comme les autres. Peu sont ceux qui à son jeune âge ont comblé le fossé entre la culture du graffiti et des Beaux-Arts, tout en leur restant fidèle comme il le fait. L’artiste met en opposition la réalité visuellement agressive du graffiti et ses représentations harmonieuses, épurées et paisibles. Son approche est un hommage à tous ceux qui consacrent une partie de leur vie à cette culture, à la recherche “d’instants”, pour presque rien, dans une société qui a pour principal objectif la quête de l’argent et du pouvoir.
